Does no longer synchronize
Since a couple of days, news doesn't synchronize anymore.
Android News Version: latest from F-Droid 0.9.9.90 News Version: 25.0.0-alpha7 Nextcloud: 29.0.3
In nextcloud web news, the news are correctly displayed and seem to work fine, but in android news it doesn't seem to synchronize anymore, neither automatic nor if I pull down (just shows spinning forever). I tried clearing cache and even data, even uninstalled and installed again but still same behavior.
As an additional data point, I now installed ocreader and it is able to sync correctly.
Thank you for opening the bug report! Are you using Single Sign On or manual Login? Are there any errors? Did you add any new feeds recently?
I'm using single sign on. I didn't see any errors and no changes to feeds recently.
Fyi, tried now with manual app credentials instead of single sign on, unfortunately this didn't help.
@tarioch Sorry for the late reply. Would you be able to provide me with a test account? I'm wondering if it's a specific feed or something that is breaking the sync. In case you have Android Development Experience - maybe you could pull some LogCat logs?
I have actually figured out a bit more in the mean time. One issue (which was on my side) was that I have adguard running on my android and that was blocking requests (I think with all my attempts of reinstalling I forgot to exclude it and the login was still working).
Unfortunately it's still not working fully but at least partially/with a workaround. The case is now like this
- trying to load news, directly returns without loading any data
- fetch news either through ocreader or by accessing news through web
- load news again, now fetches the data
Not sure if there is something like a timeout that I would need to increase for the initial fetch to work.
Just another update, I can also just refresh a couple of times in news android, I don't need to use something else.
Oh I see, thank you for the updates. Adguard interrupting the requests is interesting. I'll try to install it on my phone too and see if we can show some proper error messages letting the user know that he needs to disable it. Did you unblock the Nextcloud News and Nextcloud (Files) App on your phone? The Nextcloud (Files) app will send the actual network requests (at least the ones to your Nextcloud Server). Images etc. will be downloaded by the Nextcloud News app directly.
What kind of settings did you have in Adguard that it blocked the Nextcloud requests? I've just installed the Adguard app but I can't seem to find any issues with the Nextcloud app
To be honest I'm not 100% sure, my nextcloud url is a private server, so it should definitely not be on any add block list, but in the end explicitly whitelisting news android made it able to fetch again. Thank you very much for your assistance, maybe we should just close this as a weird issue on my side. The only thing that is remaining is that I have to refresh a couple of times until it loads, but that's something that I can easily live with.
