The user could be made aware that they can improve the map themselves. This could be done via text and/or by linking to a short guide about this.

What do you think of pointing to StreetComplete? I think this has the lowest entry burden and could actually get people to contribute?

@tacruc could you perhaps describe how the overlay would look like or attach a mock screenshot about it? I feel that mentioning links & text for both OSM and the OSM-linked StreetComplete would look to crowded on a map.

Haven't thought about this yet. There is a place in the setting in the left corner. One could also show a popup once. Or put a link in the right click action.

Just wanted to mention that not everyone uses a smart phone and/or apps, hence pointing to web apps for contribution can also prove beneficial. Listing them by platform via icons might also work.
