Deleting emails makes webpage unresponsive or slow

Steps to reproduce

1. delete some emails

Expected behavior

webpage should continue responding

Actual behavior

After emails have been deleted, the page becomes slow to respond. Refreshing the page usually doesn't help. The browser needs to be closed and reopened to work properly. This behavior does not happen with other nextcloud apps on this server. Just mail. I'm seeing a ton of "dirty table reads" and "partial sync" in the error log.
