Rework documentation / improve visibility

Summary

The documentation in https://github.com/nextcloud/mail/blob/main/doc/admin.md and https://github.com/nextcloud/mail/blob/main/doc/user.md is hard to discover.

Todo: Move the pieces to https://github.com/nextcloud/documentation/.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Hi,

It took me a few months (in spare time) to get mail sending mail. The problem in my case was a local docker mail environment (mailcow), what had to be proxied when Nextcloud came into my environment (a second application requiring certs). The logical way would be to pass the requests to the proxy ports, but that wouldn´t work. What did work was either without certs (in the interface it seemed to work), but in practice it would fail to send email (that looks like a bug in my perception). Finally I discovered looking at the postfix logs that the certs were out of sync from proxy to real service).

And now starting using as a user, looking forward at using all features!

Describe the solution you'd like

So my requests are:

  • Mail could better log what it can’t do (at least I could not find it, only vague responses)
  • In docker environments it should be possible not to verify certs (option is not available, this made the difference with Snappymail which does support this), for a local anvironment this is safe, off coarse this is not advised in a remote setup

Describe alternatives you've considered

Snappymail

Additional context

No response

Thanks for your feedback 👍

How to enable additional logging and also how to disable the tls verification is described at: https://github.com/nextcloud/mail/blob/main/doc/admin.md

Hi @kesselb

It must be me being a newby, but I haven´t found these options untill you pointed me to them. The sync command looks nice, will use that in the future as I also disabled the cert verification. I wonder if this is included in the admin guide, making it difficult to find a trace where info can be found as also the help.nextcloud.com (only accessed by volunteers, leaving to less questions answered, not the best advertising for a good product).

I will learn now, but I can´t help having the idea a lot of people are missing the boat now and that's a pity for such beautiful and useful apps. I hope I can help a little in that in the future, starting to understand how the documenting part is done.
