iOS app craps itself when turning on auto uploading of ~35000 photos.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enter settings, Auto upload
  2. Select upload from Camera roll
  3. Disable "Backup new photos/videos only"
  4. Set all other options to enabled.
  5. Click on "Turn on auto uploading"

Expected behaviour

The app should upload all photos and videos on my iOS device

Actual behaviour

The app throws me back to the main screen and then becomes completely unresponsive.

Logs

If applicable, you can post the iOS app or server logs (removing any sensitive information).

Reasoning or why should it be changed/implemented?

App should not freeze and become completely unresponsive.

To add to this, at least in my case, the app remains unresponsive, even after being manually killed and re-started. Shutting down nextcloud server to force a disconnect does not seem to help, neither does switching to airplane mode, or restarting the phone. The only way I was able to get the app out of this stuck mode is by uninstalling/reinstalling the entire app.

Can you try the new version 7 in TestFlight ?

Would be happy to give it a try, if you let me know where to find it.

I just noticed that if I keep the phone in airplane mode, the app is responsive again, and I can cancel the photo upload. But if I don't cancel the upload the app becomes unresponsive again as soon as I switch airplane mode off.

Have tried the current beta through TestFlight, and although it does not become unresponsive, it did crash once after first attempting to upload my photos. Since then it shows in the auto upload screen that it is uploading, but so far my activity log does not show anything.

Version info: Nextcloud Matheria for iOS 7.0.0.13 @ 2025 Nextcloud Server 31.0.5

Note: Perhaps I am a bit premature in concluding that nothing is happening, I just sawthe 999+ appear on the files icon, so perhaps something is happening in the background now. I'll report back when I have some more info on that.

Hi @hurenkam open the transfers view or look the log

Ok, it seems to working. It is just a bit slow, (need to count down from 24798, so that is going to take a looong time). It did crash on me a few times, but overall its a lot more usable than the stable version.

It seems like uploading is paused when the app is pushed to the background, but continues if I bring it to the foreground. This is even when I have enabled the 'Background App Refresh' in the ios settings menu for the nextcloud app. But I guess that's a different issue to be handled in a separate ticket.
