Suddenly the auto-upload stopped.
Then i saw that i had to activate it again.
Later, when i wanted to check, if my photos from today got uploaded, with horror i saw it uploading my full photo history and creating duplicates.
As other users could run into this trap, i urge you to turn on „ Back up new photos/videos.only“ by default.
As an existing user, i want „ Back up new photos/videos.only“ to be turned on, so that i don’t have the app to create mass duplicates of my photos, when i am forced to tun on, what was on ever since (and it did never create duplicates when i had to turn it on again for some reason in the past).
As an existing user, i want „ Back up new photos/videos.only“ to manually turn off, in the rare and exceptional case when i would really have a complete historical upload to my nextcloud instance.
Right now it is geared to the exceptional case of full backup for existing users with the drawback to have to delete (manually) all the duplicates created (for me i meant 4 years of photographs volumes). Luckily i spotted it rather early. Else it would have been thousands (!) of duplicates.
This looks related to https://github.com/nextcloud/ios/issues/3408
NC iOS seems to have altered a user setting (disabling a previously enabled auto upload) on a recent update (6.6.0.4 perhaps?) which it shouldn't have, and duplication also shouldn't happen if I re-enable it.
The issue with the above solution is that it has been several days since the problem started and I noticed, which means I have a week of photos that haven't synced, and that will not if I select "Only new", as that option uses the current date, as opposed to checking what the last uploaded file is.
I have the same issue and I'm wondering if I will be able continue uploading or if I'm going to have to re-write 'everything' in order to get up to day again. I don't know where the index of what is uploaded and isn't uploaded is kept, or how this is handled, but hoping that it is an incoming fix so I don't have to start from scratch uploading my library (yikes)... there seems to be a mismatch between the toggles about and the button at the bottom too?
Same issue - auto upload turned itself off Turning it back on it tries to upload duplicates of 10 years of photos
Can't use "only upload new" as there's now a week of missing photos
I don't know why turning auto upload back on has reset the 4 digit "counter" or "hash" at the end - I've previously moved iPhones and it didn't reupload everything duplicated.
Have sort of given up with it for the time being as I can't de-duplicate 100k photos and immich is working flawlessly
If "picking back up where last synced" is too hard to do in a fix, I wonder if a workaround would be allowing us to set the date from which to start looking for "only upload new"?
It feels like there's no "revert" to this bug because of the photos taken in the interim—a fix can't just turn auto upload back on. It needs to be able to reliably diff what's already uploaded and what isn't. (But that diff and de-duping should be baseline for this feature. If I turn on and off the auto upload feature a couple times, i shouldn't have multiple copies of the same photos)
