Synchronizing calendar with Android Google Calendar app missing a step

On the Synchronizing with Android instructions, everything works, but to actually see my calendar in the Google Calendar app on Android, I had to go into Google Calendar } Hamburger Menu } Settings } Manage accounts } Under "Non-Google Accounts", an entry shows as "On this device" with my user name and it was disabled by default. After enabling it, everything worked! I'm running Android 13.
