Bug description

After initially setting up the client I can't access the GUI anymore, clicking on the dock icon does nothing but put it into the background. When I run it from the command line with debug this shows: lwhite@pluto 21:28:49 /Applications $ /Applications/Nextcloud.app/Contents/MacOS/Nextcloud --logwindow --logdebug --logflush -l Failed to initialize instances shared memory: "QSharedMemory::handle: doesn't exist" nextcloud.gui.application: Migrating old config from "/Users/lwhite/Library/Application Support/Nextcloud" to "/Users/lwhite/Library/Preferences/Nextcloud" nextcloud.gui.application: Failed to move the old config directory to its new location ( "/Users/lwhite/Library/Application Support/Nextcloud" to "/Users/lwhite/Library/Preferences/Nextcloud" ) nextcloud.gui.application: Will move the individual files QList("Nextcloud_sync.log") nextcloud.gui.application: Fallback move of "Nextcloud_sync.log" also failed

I manually moved the config from Application Support to Preferences but it still keeps creating it in Application Support, I do get a window asking me about a temporary directory for logs but after I click close on that it just sits there and does nothing.

lwhite@pluto 21:28:42 /Applications $ ps auxw |grep -i nextcloud lwhite 5420 0.0 0.0 410733312 1552 s014 S+ 9:28pm 0:00.00 grep -i nextcloud lwhite 5374 0.0 0.1 410437632 27008 ?? Ss 9:28pm 0:00.06 /Applications/Nextcloud.app/Contents/PlugIns/FinderSyncExt.appex/Contents/MacOS/FinderSyncExt -AppleLanguages ("en-CA") lwhite 5259 0.0 0.3 412843360 116224 ?? S 9:26pm 0:00.56 /Applications/Nextcloud.app/Contents/MacOS/Nextcloud

I've tried killing the pids for both of them and restarting it but still doesn't do anything

Steps to reproduce

  1. install package
  2. login to cloud
  3. close app
  4. open app

Expected behavior

I expect the GUI to open... can't do anything with it

Hello,

die you update from an old installation of the nextcloud client? the migration seems to find something.

can you confirm that you downloaded from this source (.6 was released some hours ago). safest way would be to remove all mentioned files and do a clean installation.

https://github.com/nextcloud-releases/desktop/releases/download/v3.16.6/Nextcloud-3.16.6.pkg

please let us know

No it was a clean install. I uninstalled the pkg, deleted all the preferences folders and did a clean install. The GUI worked on first setup, and I would get a Dock icon w/ a Nextcloud menu. I clicked open folder and the GUI disappeared, but the Dock icon was still open. Clicking the Dock icon does nothing. Closed the app and it won't re-open. However I did discover there is a nextcloud icon behind the stupid screen notch on my menubar where I can't see it, and if I click on it the GUI opens even without the dock icon being opened. Still the Dock icon should open the GUI instead of do nothing... at least I can click around behind the notch and get to it now... haven't tried relogging in to see if it will still work the way it is now yet.

Hello,

yes, this is correct. its a background sync client. Like also e.g. OneDrive, background services only run in the taskbar - not as applications icons.

The limitation with the notch I also have sometimes. but this is Apple. there is nothing we can influence on the sequence of the icons.
