[Bug]: macOS disabling "Automatically check for updates" does not disable this feature

Bug description
- Automatically check for updates is not enabled
- client still automatically checks for updates and pops up an update dialog on startup
context: I want homebrew to take care of them

disabling "Automatically check for updates" should disable this feature

yet I'm still getting asked to update when a new update is available
latest update came through today while checking for updates has always been disabled (now I'm on 3.16.6)
@mgallien it seems not to be fixed. it still automatically checks for updates even when the option is disabled for me - 3.17.1 (macOS)
