Bug description

a user decided to enable virtual agent on a windows system, before this action - all Nextcloud files exist locally on the windows systems (too).

  • after switching to the virtual agent, all files got suddenly removed locally (windows)

Steps to reproduce

  1. enable virtual file agent on windows
  2. check local files into the nextcloud folder
  3. there are gone
  4. all files (fortunately) exist on the Nextcloud Server.

Expected behavior

May be the expectation is wrong - but in my opinion, the virtual agent SHOULD NOT remove all files without user intervention. This user had to resync serveral TB of data back to his PC.

  • enable virtual file agent on windows

Do you mean "virtual files system"? How exactly did the user enable the virtual files system? Did they have all files syncing? Did the user remove and and a new sync folder with the VFS enabled?

  • check local files into the nextcloud folder

  • there are gone

Did the files become placeholders with no content? When you checked the folder for the files, was the sync still running?

  • all files (fortunately) exist on the Nextcloud Server.

We just release 3.16.0, please try to upgrade and reproduce the issue. The only way to check why and how files were deleted is with logs a

Do you mean "virtual files system"? ==> yes

How exactly did the user enable the virtual files system?

  • enable support for virtual files in the context menu of the nextcloud windows application (... UnterstĂĽtzung fĂĽr virtuelle Dateien aktivieren)

Did they have all files syncing?

  • yes, all files were synced properly to 100% locally

Did the user remove and and a new sync folder with the VFS enabled?

  • no - the user only enabled "... UnterstĂĽtzung fĂĽr virtuelle Dateien aktivieren)" .. (clicking onto the three dots ...), then suddenly all local files were removed from the system (PC).

Did the files become placeholders with no content?

  • yes, the got a "cloud symbol", which means, that the file is not available anymore (locally)

When you checked the folder for the files, was the sync still running?

  • yes, but when the sync operation did complete - the situation as described did not change

We just release 3.16.0, please try to upgrade and reproduce the issue.

  • yes, i will inform the user to upgrade - but now too late to reproduce.

The only way to check why and how files were deleted is with logs

  • not sure, if i'm getting the logs .. user is a little company with very sensitive data .. but i could try to ask (may be de-anonymizing, if possible)
