Introduce the concept of a document owner
We show on each collectives page the one who did the last change, but this might not be the document owner. The document owner is the one who is in charge of the content, while the last edit might be from someone who just fixed a typo quickly.
Especially in organizations, it is important to have clear ownership for certain topics and pages. People should see this easily to know which person/department to contact in case of any doubts.
A easy first step would be to show the creator of the document next to the "last change". In most case, this will be the document owner. But in the long run, there should be probably a option to set /change the owner explicitly. Maybe it would also make sense to inherit the owner from the parent folder.
We talked about this in #1361 is this a similar use case ? Inside a collective team, you might want to know who has made the changes. When it is shared, individual contributions are anonymized to the collective name.
@Aveyron-RetD I think it is unrelated. It is not about shared items. It is inside the collectives and I want to see more, not less. Beside the last edit there should be something like a page-/content-/topic-owner who stays the same no matter who edited the file the last time.
Ownership in Collectives and Files
@schiessle We already have the concept of a file owner in the rest of Nextcloud and we're trying to enable a different form of ownership in collectives. If I share a file with a group, the group will always rely on me for providing the file (or to transfer the ownership).
To avoid confusion I am hesitant to reintroducing a concept of ownership that would work different than file ownership in the rest of Nextcloud.
Alternative approaches
My goto approach right now would be to make it a social norm to denote the contact person at the top of the document with an @mention. Something like this:
🌳 My Document
Contact (in case of questions or updates): @max-nextcloud
One could use a template to encourage people to add their name.
Possible changes in collectives
a) We could display who created a file as you suggested.
b) We could allow adding a placeholder for the creator in templates so the contact could be prefilled.
c) Allow subscribing to a page to be informed of changes and list the subscribers / participants on the side (like here on github).
d) Make @mentions more powerful by linking to the contact in person or allowing different actions when clicking the mention.
What do you think? Would any of the alternative approaches work for you? What would be a good first step?
