"Open details" and offline content easier to access

Open mat-m opened this issue 10 months ago • 5 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I have two kinds of bookmarks:

  • Living bookmarks: On those, I click to open their website
  • Data collection: On those, I want the details, to get the "offline" content. And when you brows many of them, clicking on the meatballs, then Open Details is a pain.

Describe the solution you'd like

  • Ability to set default click behavior: either Open Details in current tab or Open link in new tab
    • at application level
    • at folder level
    • at link level When default behavior is Open Details, we need a new entry in meatballs menu to "Open Link"

Describe alternatives you've considered Ability to set default click behavior: either Open Details in current tab or Open link in new tab at app level

  • Clicking on Image triggers default behavior
  • Clicking on Bookmark title div triggers the other one

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to open this issue with the bookmarks app. I know it's frustrating when software causes problems. You have made the right choice to come here and open an issue to make sure your problem gets looked at and if possible solved. I'm Marcel and have been maintaining this software the last few years. I currently work for Nextcloud but maintain this app in my free time, because it is not an official Nextcloud product. My day job at Nextcloud is pretty awesome but sadly leaves me with less time for side projects like this one than I used to have. I still try to answer all issues and if possible fix all bugs here, but it sometimes takes a while until I get to it. Until then, please be patient. Note also that GitHub is a place where people meet to make software better together. Nobody here is under any obligation to help you, solve your problems or deliver on any expectations or demands you may have, but if enough people come together we can collaborate to make this software better. For everyone. Thus, if you can, you could also look at other issues to see whether you can help other people with your knowledge and experience. If you have coding experience it would also be awesome if you could step up to dive into the code and try to fix the odd bug yourself. Everyone will be thankful for extra helping hands! One last word: If you feel, at any point, like you need to vent, this is not the place for it; you can go to the forum, to twitter or somewhere else. But this is a technical issue tracker, so please make sure to focus on the tech and keep your opinions to yourself. (Also see our Code of Conduct. Really.)

I look forward to working with you on this issue Cheers :blue_heart:

Hello, @marcelklehr I can try to have a look into the code. Not much more free time as you, but at least this is an issue I can find motivation in :) Can you point me where you build the cards ?

Hi @mat-m Thank you for the feedback and sorry for the wait! I think I'd rather not introduce a new setting if we can avoid it. What do you think about maybe adding a new button on those cards that yields the details view directly, while keeping the title click to point to the website?

@marcelklehr : We can. I suggested to do this on the thumbnail to avoid one more element. And I think that makes sense:

  • Click in thumbnail gives offline view and details
  • Click on title goes to the web page

We have 2 clearly identified different clickable zones which are doing the same thing currently.

What are your views ?

I think I can get behind that, yeah.

This is the bookmark component in case you find time to work on this: https://github.com/nextcloud/bookmarks/blob/master/src/components/Bookmark.vue 💙
