I am frustrated when I closed an approval notification because I struggle in finding where is the document I have to approve.
Describe the solution you'd like A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.
Having in the Files left menu an additional entry that would show up when I have files to approve would be a great solution. Several sub-entries could distinguish already approved files, the pending ones, etc...

Use the dashboard widget, but this one has first to be enabled by the user, and one need to go back to the dashboard to see the files in pending approval status.
Additionaly, if the dashboard is disabled, the widget can't be used.
