[Bug]: When uploading multiple pictures from Google Photos the upload silently fails.

Bug description

When uploading multiple images from Google Photos via "sharing" to nextcloud the upload silently fails: not logs are present in nextcloud, no errors are displayed by the app.

Uploading a single image always succeeds, uploading less than 5 usually succeeds. The issue doesn't seem to be related to the size of the image, although I only tried with images in the range 2-5MB.

Uploading the same files using nextcloud app (and looking for the image files in the camera folder) works, regardless of the number of files.

I don't know if this is an issue with the nextcloud app or the server

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install nextcloud app on android
  2. in google photos, select at least 5 pictures, with size >4MB. I tested multiple times with these picutres https://photos.app.goo.gl/7fgkqP9VFnspz4oa8
  3. click on "share"
  4. select nextcloud
  5. select the desired folder
  6. press upload

Often the images will not be uploaded. Sometimes only a few of them will be uploaded.

Expected behavior

One would expect that all the images would be uploaded, or that an error would be raised.

Can you check your webserver logs for the uploads and see which status codes are returned?

provokateurin avatar Sep 09 '25 08:09 provokateurin

I looked at the logs using docker logs for all the containers, apache, nextcloud and imaginary. I could see some logs in imaginary when it was successful, but when it was not failing I could not see any log. Is there a way to increase the verbosity? Where should I see logs? I am using AIO.

I'm also seeing this. First time when sharing multiple or even just 1 file to Nextcloud, it's not doing anything but on the second try it works. I think this only started recently and is probably related to just the app and not the server.

Can you also post some upload finished notification like Dropbox does it that shows number of files, directory and status etc. and brings one to the respective folder on tap?

I have the same problem. ~~Sharing 1-4 photos from the photos app works~~, 5 or more fails silently. Edit: No, less than 5 photos also sometimes fails. It is totally unreliable.

Same here. Behavior is totally random and independent of the numbers of photos selected. Trying a larger number of photos (>10) will almost certaily fail.
