App always trys to auto upload even if set to wi-fi only + while charging
Steps to reproduce
- Set foto and video auto upload to wi-fi only + only while charging battery.
- Take a picture with phone (doesn't matter which camera app) while away from any wi-fi and while not charging battery.
- Note: My server can only be reached inside my private network at home. It is not exposed to the internet. So my simple intention is that whenever I come back home with new pictures on the phone and plug in the charger all new pictures and videos will auto upload to my server. Actually this works fine.
Expected behaviour
- Absolutely nothing should happen as Nextcloud app should respect the settings.
Actual behaviour
- Nextcloud app still attempts to connect to my server which fails (of course) and then brings error message something like "can't upload file".
Can you reproduce this problem on https://try.nextcloud.com?
- Please create a test demo account and see if this still happens there.
- If yes, please open up a bug report
- If not, please verify server setup and ask for help on forum
Environment data
Android version: 12
Device model: Samsung Galaxy S22 Xiaomi Mi 5
Stock or customized system: Samsung: stock Mi5: Lineage OS all versions from 15 to latest nightly
Nextcloud app version: 3.20.1
Nextcloud server version: 23
Reverse proxy: No
I confirm this bug as reported.
note: For simplicity in design the app might be better to have a single preference override for upload only on Wifi instead of having it relegated to each image directory. If someone actually wants to gerrymander and do that on a directory level great, but not as a default thank you.
Confirming this as well. Initially when I setup my uploads this wasn't happening.
This is occurring on my Samsung galaxy s20 ultra as well. I see it was reported in June and still no assignee. Any update on when this will be fixed? I am hesitant to move forward with full deployment if the app doesn't work and isn't being actively supported.
I am also experiencing this issue with my Pixel 6 and Nextcloud Android app version 3.22.3. It is often using >20% of my total battery consumption when not connected to wifi, even though my auto-upload settings are set to only upload when on wifi and charging,
Are you sure that the battery consumption is due to the uploading attempts? Did you disable the battery optimisation for the app? If so,enable it and check.

@svenb1234 isn't it enough to cause concern in you that the app ignores set preferences?
I for one believe the settings are not clear thus not adequate for the user, even if the app functions as intended by the developer.

Yes, battery usage is set to Optimized. I'm quite confident that it is attempting to upload data as this extreme battery consumption has only happened when I have saved a new file into my auto upload folder (by taking a photo, recording a video, etc.).
still experiencing this, with or without battery optimization enabled (Asus Rog Phone)
just confirming this is still an issue, and is causing me some problems. I have a large amount of photos I'm trying to transfer to my server so I can remove them from my phone and it's going to destroy my data usage/battery life if I allow it to continue
combined with #14665 and #14851 this bug is causing me so much pain at the moment as I cannot upload any other photos until the enormous, unclearable upload queue is finished
