ListItem active not working as expected in Firefox

When I click on a ListItem in Firefox it's background turns gray, the same color as for :hover even though I can see that a list-item--active class is added. If i then click somewhere else the background becomes blue. In GnomeWeb/Epiphany it instantly it becomes blue on click. Firefox might prioritise some CSS pseudo class like :focus over this active class or not rerender the thing in blue.

The same thing happens in Nextcloud Mail.
