Feature Request: Custom Base Entries in .cfg

Open SlainteMaith opened this issue 7 years ago • 3 comments

Ability to add custom target locations to the .cfg file. For example, a player using an RSS install may wish to redefine the location of KSC using the coordinates 028.626749 x -081.260830. For now just being able to customize a target location would be a great improvement--ideally being able to define several such locations on any planet. Functionality with KSC Switcher might be slightly more complicated, but along those lines.

Silly question, but where is the KSC without the KSC Switcher, if you only install RSS and nothing else? I wonder if we could just extract the position from the game somehow instead of having the user manually configure it.

I tend to just go outside and plant a flag and use that for a target--that should give you the in-game coordinates. =) The question then becomes: where is KSC? The Launch Pad? The Runway? The VAB? In my 2.5x world, KSC is closer to where Orlando would be: 26° 36' 31" N 81° 10'50" W Interestingly, 'scale' doesn't seem to have much to do with the coordinate system no matter what planet. If you put those coordinates into Google Maps, it'll still show up as being close to Orlando, FL.

The point of the user manually configuring it is exactly for the reason I listed above. Let's say someone wants to pinpoint their landing on the launch pad? Or in my case, as I'm using a shuttle, I want to reenter and land on a runway. What if I want to open a new base someplace else? Ideally not only one base could be configured in the .cfg but several target points.

Also, opening it up to allow any position as "target" will open up usefulness with other user-generated solar systems, like Galileo's mod.

Starting from Release 2.2.2, we will get the KSC location from the game instead of hardcoding the Latitude/Longitude.

This means that a changed KSC location (such as Kennedy Space Center in RSS) should work, without the need to change anything in a config file.

This does not work for KSCSwitcher, however. For some reason, the coordinates I get from the game when KSCSwitcher is installed are wrong.
