Since I have my Google Hangouts SMS and Hangouts TM messages both cloud stored in my Gmail account as conversations, could their be a procedure I could do to export them from the Google's and into my NextCloud? When they merged the two formats I jumped on the bandwagon. Most of my messages I'd like to keep right now are SMS type and I just used the Hangouts app to keep life simple due to friends using both formats. Typically I don't have a hangout worth saving, but I have SMS threads I don't delete.

Hello @WNYmathGuy thanks for publishing a comment here too. Many users requested various backends, it's not easy, and generally closed backends are here because Google and others doesn't want anybody to get its messages through third party apps.

Thanks @nerzhul I'm trying to "pull myself out of the matrix" so to speak. Is there a way I can upload old text messages into your interface on my private NextCloud server and have your mobile app be the sole client of SMS/MMS from now on? I can easily see replacing all of the Hangouts features with NextCloud Talk, but my luddites on SMS are an issue for me. Google Takeout allows me to slice just the chat's off of my Gmail box into a single zip file. Unpacking the zip/tar file gives me a plaintext record of all SMS's in .mbox format, e.g.:

(Sam Smith owns the Gmail account, also sometimes the "From:" name is a phone number instead of a person's name)

And I assume I would have trouble linking the profile number to a contact in my NextCloud, but maybe not impossible?
