Suggested close-hook for compressed mboxes may lead to data loss.

The way the close-hook works for compressed mboxes, as suggested by the manual, is by redirecting the output of the compression command to the original compressed file.

close-hook '.xz$' "xz --stdout '%t' > '%f'"

If, for any reason, the compression process is unable to terminate properly (e.g., the client was run from in a remote session which has been interrupted), some of the original data is irreversibly lost (read: it has just happened to me).

A much better way would be to redirect the output of the compression process to a temporary file that would then be moved to the original.
