was unexpected at this time error when abe-all commands used

So I used the pre built jar available and entered the commands to unpack the backup but it gave me "was unexpected at this time" I've installed the latest java so I'm unsure what the issue can be.

This is not an issue with abe utility, most probably with your setup.

Also, if you want to get any kind of help, you need to at least show what commands you entered and what output you got. Was it in Windows, Linux, Mac? What kind of shell did you use? What version of Java, etc.
