Feature Request: Add event to my schedule without signing up

Open marleighnorton opened this issue 6 years ago • 5 comments

Now that there's a calendar feed that syncs to my personal calendar (YAY!), I find I want to be able to add events I am not signed up for on it. Like social events. They don't have signups so there's no way to get it on my calendar feed, but it would be great to get my schedule all in one place.

Use cases I could foresee:

  • Social events (Intercon Dance! Meetups! Stuff!)
  • Keeping track of friends/family members (add my kid's schedule to mine, I'm meeting friend at game X when it's done)
  • Game coordination (game X wants this prop when we're done, where is that?)

internally the schedule is a .ics feed of events you've signed up for, so I think one solution to this issue may be to create a new form of hidden signup 'watching' that isn't displayed to the GMs

Also, for the use case of single-run events this year, I added signup buttons to them.

I like this idea a lot. I do think it's important to come up with wording that will make it clear to attendees that this doesn't sign you up for the event, but just adds it to a list of things you're interested in. Here are some ideas:

  • Star this event
  • Bookmark this event
  • Add to my favorites
  • Add to my list (maybe that one's confusing)

Other ideas?

I think there's an opportunity to evaluate how we support scheduling prep for next year where I think stars and favorites will come in handy, so I'd prefer to reserve that language for that.

Watch? Follow?

Lurk? ;)

Social events now have signups, so this is partially addressed
