Tidal has made some changes, but there is a workaround.

Tidal has made some changes, but there is a workaround.
What is the workaround?
change the quality in your config from '3' to '2' or use the following command when you want to download something
rip -q 2 url
it will download 16 Bit FLAC but if you're alright with that this should work for now
the workaround also seems not to work anymore!

The workaround does indeed work for me. Does this only matter if you're paying for the higher tier subscription?
Is anybody able to confirm - are we missing out on the highest available quality downloads, or is it that streamrip tries and fails to download a track that doesn't have the particular quality requested? It depends on the track for me, some download fine.
If I use the -q 2 parameter (only on tracks that cause this error), am I giving up a higher quality option?

My experience is that quality 2 (as per the documentation) indicates that this will download what Tidal calls the "HIGH" quality version, which is FLAC up to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz. Tidal dropped MQA which they used for their highest quality "MAX" (up to 24 bit, 96 kHz in late July 2024 when the company behind it went out of business. It was just as well, it was a lossy and proprietary format. Long live FLAC! I suspect that until the developer has time to recode the rip functionality at quality level 3 for FLAC, we will be relegated to quality level 2. This isn't awful because after all it is CD quality, and in quite a few cases this is the highest quality level for some tracks on Tidal anyway.

I'm glad they dropped the MQA branding, but do we know for sure if the files aren't just the same as they were before?
Idk
