Question/possible feature request: Any example to change classes, pls?

Hi, If I want to do something like $('#connection-lost-banner').switchClass('alert-danger','alert-warning'); but as elements won't be there till no connection.. is there a recommended way to do something like that pls... or to add ability to customize the class in the settings file?
