"Prewarm" functionality

Would it be possible to have a particle system "prewarmed"?

I am using this in a background and it would be useful to have the particle system start with particles already emitted if the effect is set to infinitely loop. Basically if there is a way to say "start X seconds into the emission", that would achieve the result.
