Android auto support

Android auto while connected to my car and while running AA on my phone won't list Timber as a possible music app. I have tried installing this app from F-droid and from the Play store, but it's not working.

Wat might be the issue here?

The auto implementation appears incomplete. The manifest is missing metadata, and when I actually add it, the app gets stuck on "Getting your selection...". E.g. you can pick a song, and it will play it, but does not show the song, author, and playback controls on the car screen.
