Stuck on "Status: Unknown" with no notifications - MacOS 13.4.1, Spotify

MacOS Version: 13.4.1 Spotify Version: Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.19.941.gbf202593

I just installed Notify (not sure how to grab the version of it) and when I change songs in spotify, I get no notification, and the status on the tray icon just shows 'Status: Unknown'. Any way I can fix it (or get more info to help debug it)?

I'm having the same issue. I did not receive the dialogue box asking for permission for Spotify to use it either. MacOS Version: 13.6 Spotify Version: 1.2.20.1218.g02aff7a4

I'm having a hard time reproducing the issue. Are the permissions settings green in Notify settings?

However, I do not see Notify under Privacy and Security > Automation:

@asyncmeow What worked for me was to install it via brew. I first made sure the ".app" from the website is removed and then did a quick brew install and it worked flawlessly. :)

brew tap nahive/spotify-notify
brew install --cask spotify-notify --no-quarantine

Give that a go, it should help.

This issue does happen in the downloaded version from the website though. So it might be worth updating the installation instructions with the ones you have.

I can't grant automation permission. I installed it through brew and through the app, the result was the same. Notify: 0.4.4 Sonoma: 14.3.1

@MilanovaSmile Im not sure, but are you sure you have permissions to do automations? You can also try running the command to reset the permissions and rerun the app.

I'm not sure why downloading directly from the website is not working. I'll take a closer look.

@nahive The new version didn't work. The problem is exactly the same. The app tells me: "Missing required automation permissions". I click "Go to Settings". The automation section opens in the settings, but it is empty.

@MilanovaSmile Are you allowed to give automation permissions on tour computer you're using? Other than that I'm stumped. I'd love more diagnostics. The accessibility control is still buggy in macOS sadly.
