How do task dependencies work?

I couldn't find any information on how dependencies work for created tasks. I added a dependency to one and wonder about its effects because I didn't notice a change in behavior. If there's a place I can look please tell me.

• How to add dependencies when creating a task (not in the editor)
• How do they influence the task and filters
• Shouldn't a task that has dependencies appear first when the search contains said dependencies
• Should circular dependencies be allowed
• Should a task be allowed to start or be resolved before its dependencies
