Desde mediados del siglo XX, el 20 de septiembre ha sido feriado de facto en la Región de Coquimbo en 2014, 2016 y 2017 fue feriado legal en toda la región, y su popularidad es tal que se ha empezado a festejar en otras localidades del norte de Chile.​ Esta tradicional celebración redujo sus actividades a causa del terremoto de Coquimbo de 2015 y fue suspendida debido a la pandemia de COVID-19 de 2020.

Since the mid-20th century, September 20 has been a de facto holiday in the Coquimbo Region in 2014, 2016 and 2017 it was a legal holiday throughout the region, and its popularity is such that it has begun to be celebrated in other locations in northern Chile. This traditional celebration reduced its activities because of the 2015 Coquimbo earthquake and was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
