Recommended setting of waifu2x-caffe

Uh, I didn't know where to start this off, so I decided to do it here instead of the other issue topic.

I was wondering if any of you can give me a screenshot of the waifu2x-caffe settings that will make the images look the best. Just like it would do with the site.

Personally i find experimenting for every picture the best, for some denoise 3 is needed while it blurs things on other. I generally tend to never upscale anything that is smaller then 1000x500, i mix denoise levels, start out low and go higher as i make the image bigger, and try to only go increase size in 2x intervals.

In some pictures where denoise blurs to much but is needed in parts of it i make one with denoise 0 and one with denoise 3, then i mix the two using gimp.

If you want to scale 1000x1000 to 3000x3000, i find that doing 2x scale and then custom scale to 3000 gives the best quality rather then scaling to 3000 directly. Never downscale as its not the main function of the program, so go for scale in 2x intervals untill you get as close as you can then pick a custom resolution.

My proudest achievement was to upscale a image flawlessly from around 1-2kp resolution to 16kp. The only reason why i stopped there was that 16gb ram (waifu2x could only use 11 of that else it crashed due to maxing out my ram) was not enough, and when i build a new computer im gonna get 32, 64 or even 128 gb.

The problem is that waifu2x-caffe doesn't working on my PC, and I don't know why...

@nagadomi Have you ever try auto denoise? If so, any better than normal denoise?

MinorMole avatar Jul 29 '19 05:07 MinorMole

As far as I know, waifu2x-caffe's auto denoise is a function that switches whether to denoise with the input file extension. .png -> no denoise .jpg -> denoise It does not mean that noise level is automatically selected.
