Too much Knowledge causes slowdown

I'm running Page Assist as an extension on Brave browser and I uploaded a few large textbooks as Knowledge using nomic-embed-text as the embedding model. It resulted in Page Assist lagging quite badly, even when the Knowledge isn't selected for the chat. There is like a 1 second lag between keyboard inputs and the text appearing on screen. I had assumed the Knowledge wouldn't be loaded until it was needed, but it seems like uploading too much Knowledge causes slowdown of the extension.
