Version 7, Update 67 for Java according to the, 'about java' icon. It's Windows 7 home edition. Thanks for such a quick response, it's really dragging down my work on...

Now it's the newest version 8 revision 66. It still doesn't work right. I've uninstalled, reinstalled and rebooted my computer more times than I'd like... Even reinstalling 4.0.0 hasn't helped.....
