User suggestion: add Police and Crime Commissioners
Suggestion via email, 17.1.13:
Are you thinking of adding PCCs? They are picking up some bits of police casework.
There was also an email on 4.1.13:
Following the recent PCC elections and the introduction of PCC's will you consider including PCC's in your Write to Them website along with MP's, MEP's, Councillors etc?
Another +1 via email today: "Are you considering including Police Commissioners in your excellent website?"
+1 via email: "Is there any way that the new PCCs can be added to the list of local elected representatives."
@jennyd wrote an import script for the police force area boundaries that could be used to import those boundaries into MapIt, at a small performance cost to that service, so a large part of the work that would be needed for this is already done.
Via Facebook: "A couple of extra ideas... how to send emails/letters to PCC's (Police and Crime Commisioners) and Mayors""
+1 via email.
Another user +1:
You still do not cover elected police commissioners and i doubt if this experiment will work without access via Write-to-them. Is the reason lack of funds? Do you want me to write to my MP asking the government to fund this extension of your coverage?
Another user +1:
Police Commissioner is a voted in public position - perhaps you should add these to your list of write to them.
" I was curious as to why you not included details of the police and crime commissioners? I think that would enhance the site still further."
"Could you include police and crime commissioners please?"
Tweaked to say Police and Crime Commissioners, because I keep looking at the title and thinking Parochial Church Councils (which is a plausible but far less possible thing to include).
"you may want to include Police and Crime Commissioners which are elected officials that everyone should be able to write to."
" I think it would be really useful to include [...] Police Crime Commissioners and Parish Councillors"
Message: You're doing a great job here but how about including PCCs? We're elected and accountable too!
From this ticket history, I doubt we will be adding PCCs any time soon, in the same way we do not have elected mayors. Too wide a scope/area, if we want some form of policy on it? Perhaps a FAQ entry, with links/instructions to https://www.police.uk on how to contact your PCC would be best. Nothing stopping someone else setting up a website, of course :)
Here's our current FAQ: https://www.writetothem.com/about-qa#otherreps
Will you add Police Commissioners or Parish Councillors to the site?
We might! It’s been requested a few times, and every time someone makes the request, it pushes it up our list of priorities. So if this something you’d like to see, let us know.
Or, if you have the skills, feel free to help us add this functionality. WriteToThem is open source: read more about contributing code here.
So based on that, I can't really blame these users :)
How about this for a rewrite, based on @dracos' comment above:
Will you add Police Crime Commissioners to the site? Adding PCCs to WriteToThem is not a current priority. If you'd like to contact yours, you can do so via https://www.police.uk/. And if you think there should be a site like WriteToThem for contacting PCCs, remember that the code is open source and anyone is welcome to adapt it for such a use.
Then we'd also need a separate one for Parish Councillors, unless we feel the same way about them?
there is no option to write to one's directly elected mayor or Police and Crime Commissioner! Surely this would be fairly straightforward to add to the website?
[name], Bristol (where we have both a directly elected mayor and police commissioner)
Are you going to add these elected reps to your site. They are setting the priorities for policing - like more or less emphasis on domestic violence. It would be great if you could...
I often use your brilliant website/service to contact my elected representatives and wonder if it would be possible to add POLICE & CRIME COMMISSIONERS to your website.
Just adding my name to the list of people who would like to see Police Commissioners accessible from your excellent service.
A +1 from a user today.
