Just thought I’d let you know that your entry for Alfred Dobbs is in error – and perhaps the rest of your 1945 parliament entries.

The election was held on 5th July but the count was not carried out until 26th July – ballot papers from British troops serving overseas were brought back to the UK for the count. So MPs elected in the 1945 parliament were not elected until 26th. Not the 5th. This was I believe the case for ALL the votes in the 1945 election.

So Alfred Dobbs is in fact the shortest serving of any UK MP being killed about 4 hours after having been elected in Smethwick. In a car accident.

I’m not always so pedantic but thought this was an error worth pointing out – otherwise Mr Dobbs (who never got to make a maiden speech) is denied credit for the only record he holds regarding his parliamentary career.

I have replied to thank them and told them that we'll look into this.
