Originally posted by T0DDE May 2, 2025 So I have a problem with the SDDM wallpaper: it's always black. I just re-did the setup and chose the "install SDDM" option, to try to re-install it, and at the beginning it had the default wallpaper, but as soon s I try to change it (with the "set wallpaper for SDDM" option) it just turns black. Anybody has a solution to this?

I don't know if this is related but I can seem to set a wallpaper but when I turn on my computer again the next time, it doesn't save which wallpaper I picked and shows a black screen with the wallpaper picker as the only open app

Can you please look into Your /usr/share/sddm/themes/sequoia/theme.conf what wallpaper is set?

And if is set to backgrounds/current_wallpaper.### (### could be jpg or png), if the image is shown correctly?

You can test the image in kitty by: kitten icat /usr/share/sddm/themes/sequoia/backgrounds/current_wallpaper.### (replace ### with the correctly extension).

Please open the sidebar, open the Wallpaper menu and select Set Wallpaper for SDDM.

This should set the wallpaper correctly if you're using sequoia.
