Strange prioritization of words with multiple spellings
I really wish words like 目標 and 自ら were prioritized with their most common readings.
tldr; 目標 ==> めじるし もくひょう
自ら ==> おにずから みずから
is not a good ordering and the first-prioritized item in these cases is not the first writing in that items definition (目印 is, and 自ずから is).
Further information follows:
目標 would normally be pronounced as もくひょう by a Japanese native speaker if I'm not wrong. 自ら would normally be pronounced as みずから by a Japanese native speaker if I'm not wrong.
These examples are with the JMdict, even without using any other dictionaries. But I don't think the problem is fully with the dictionary itself but instead could be better handled by aedict3.
If I search for 目標 I get:
- 目印, 目標, 目じるし [めじるし]: mark (for quick identification or recognition), sign; landmark, guide; trademark
- 目標 [もくひょう]: (P, n) goal, target, aim, objective; mark, sign, landmark
- ...
- ... [further definitions including phrases/idioms/collocations]
If I search for 自ら I get: 1.自ずから, 自ら, 自から [おのずから]: (P, adv, uk) naturally, in due course, by itself, of its own accord 2.自ら [みずから]: (P, n) oneself; (P, adv) oneself, for oneself, personally, in person 3. .. 4. ... [further definitions including phrases/idioms/collocations]
so even though the main kanji writing for もくひょう is 目標 and the main kanji -kana writing for みずから is 自ら, there are secondary entries for おのずから and めじるし that seem to overpower these in terms of priority.
For me this is real issue. There are a few things I like about aedixt3, but by far the reason I keep using it more than many other dictionaries is... the ability to look up a whole sentence or passage. eg by selecting text and sharing from another app or copying and pasting from clipboard.
A deliberately simple example: これは私の目標です shows me the words これ は わたし の めじるし です and it's not obvious at all that this is the wrong reading, or at least a very uncommon way to read this sentence.
Help please! This has been a frustration for years but I'm just mentioning it now.
