Large spacing around lines containing Japanese when using custom font (Noto Sans JP)

I recently switched to a custom font (Noto Sans JP – Medium for normal text, Regular for large text) to fix some characters rendering incorrect forms, and I've found that it introduces a large amount of unwanted space around any lines containing Japanese.

For reference, I'm using a JDM Sony Xperia 1 II running Android 12.
