Automatic clean search field (feature request)

Open Mornon opened this issue 5 years ago • 12 comments

Right now if I did a search and hit the magnifying glass icon, the search field opens with the word I last searched in it, and to clear it you have to hit the X. I almost never need to search again for the word I just searched, or to just modify it for a new search, so this is very inconvinient. I was wondering, would it be possible to have an option to make the magnifying glass open a clean search field, without the previously searched word?

I think you should be able to achieve this if you go to Settings / GUI Tuning / Search / Pre-fill Omnisearch and set it to "Clear - empty string". Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't help: using "Clear - empty string" as setting I still have the last search if I hit the magnifying glass.

The "Clear - empty string" setting is applied only when you're navigating to the Search activity from some other activity - nothing happens when you already are on the Search activity. I'm not sure if I understand your case correctly though - which magnifying glass do you have in mind, perhaps the one in the black-ish left navigation menu that says "Word search", or something else?

This one, the one that opens again the search bar after a search.

Which Aedict version are you using please?

Sorry, I forgot to list my system info: Aedict 3.50.15 on a 6.0.1 Android phone.

Ah, I see, you have the "Live Search" disabled. Thanks for the screenshot and sorry it took me so long to realize this :-D I'm definitely getting old.

Right. The "Clear - empty string" setting only applies for the text box in the initial search screen. I think I can make it to also apply for the search boxes in follow-up screens.

As a "workaround" you can enable Settings / GUI Tuning / Search / Live Search - would that fit your use-case?

It's already enabled; I tried to disable and renable it just in case, it still keeps the last searched item.

Mornon avatar Oct 09 '19 14:10 Mornon

Hmm if live search is enabled then you shouldn't be able to reach that particular screen with the magnifying glass... :) Could you describe in full, how exactly do you reach that screen?

mvysny avatar Oct 09 '19 14:10 mvysny

I just do a search: in type in the word I'm looking for, then I hit enter.

Mornon avatar Oct 09 '19 15:10 Mornon

A physical enter key? Yeah that one can launch the search result screen. However with live search, the search results should be shown as you type. Well anyway I can fix the clearing.

Sorry, I meant on the on-screen keyboard, not a physical key.
