It would be equally useful to star the NPM package in addition to the github repo.

Interesting idea. I see that the (npm-registry-client](https://github.com/npm/npm-registry-client#clientstarsuri-params-cb) does seem capable of fetching stars given proper credentials.

This would require addition of a token for npm to the ~/.appreciate file and then adding the corresponding HTTP calls.
