@RomanPudashkin can you pls review these logs?
We've checked the logs but haven't been able to locate anything clear there to help us.
@bernarddemuysere-creator could you please help us by answering a few questions?
- Does this crash occur when using MS Basic (not MuseSounds)?
- Does this crash occur in 4.5 or in any other 4.X (older) version?
- Does this crash in 4.6.4?
- Does this crash occur in master or latest nightly build (these include an number of changes to the audio engine)?
Does this crash occur when using MS Basic (not MuseSounds)?
-> I use actually MuseScore Studio. How can I use MS Basic or MuseSounds ?
Does this crash occur in 4.5 or in any other 4.X (older) version? -> YES. I've already "tested" the previous version of MuseScore (4.5.2), and the problem still occurs. To perform these tests, I uninstalled version 4.6.3 to download version 4.6.2, and also to download the "without Muse Hub" version and the "portable" version.
Does this crash in 4.6.4?**
-> I haven't been able to download MuseScore 4.6.4 yet. 4.6.4 doesn't seem to be accessible at the moment.
Does this crash occur in master or latest nightly build (these include an number of changes to the audio engine)?
-> I don't know how to distinguish between these two versions. I'm not very computer savvy. I'm more of a music comp. I've already "tested" the previous version of MuseScore, and the problem still occurs. To perform these tests, I uninstalled version 4.6.3 to download version 4.6.2, and also to download the "without Muse Hub" version and the "portable" version.
@bernarddemuysere-creator you can determine if you are using MSBasic or MuseSounds by looking at the mixer After opening the "Grand Staff" template, if you are using MuseSounds, it will say "Grand Piano". If you are using MS Basic, it will say "MS Basic"
Thanks for the clarification! There's definitely something wrong there. Look at the screenshot: the instruments listed are "trumpet" and "trombone" (as sounds), but "piano" is listed as the instrument name!
@bernarddemuysere-creator if you change the sounds to MSBasic (dropdown menu>Soundfont>MS Basic>Choose Automatically) does the program still crash?
No, indeed, when I set the parameters as you indicated, the problem disappears! Phew! A huge thank you for this help! Thank you all for your research! In the future, if the problem arises, I know what to do : change the sounds to MSBasic (dropdown menu>Soundfont>MS Basic>Choose Automatically)
Still crashing here.
Created a new score based on the standard Bass Clef template. Tweaked a bunch of styling and layout. Saved to the templates directory.
Create new file based on this template. At the first edit - POOF.
@kdekooter It's not clear if your crash is the same as the original reported crash
Is your crash caused by using MuseSounds and not MSBasic?
We still don't have enough information to reproduce and diagnose, please share reproduction steps and/or diagnostic files
Help>Diagnostics>Save Diagnostic Files
@bernarddemuysere-creator your diagnostic files would be helpful as well, please save diagnostic files right after reproducing the crash.
The sounds stuff in my case is already set to MSBasic, so maybe this is a different kind of crash.
@kdekooter please open a new issue report with reproduction steps, example files, and diagnostic files
As mentioned in my message last week, the problem is now resolved. What helped me was when you suggested changing the sounds to MS Basic (dropdown menu > Soundfont > MS Basic > Choose Automatically). Would you still like me to send you the MuseScore Diagnostic I ran right after the crash?
Yes, we want to know what caused this issue so you can use MuseSounds
Here it is !
Thank you!
One more request: Could you check your MuseSampler version? You may need to update via MuseHub
@RomanPudashkin please review the diagnostic files when you are able
I'd like to check the MuseSampler version, but where can I find this information? Also, since your advice solved my problem, I've upgraded MuseScore to version 4.6.4. Could this be affecting the MuseSampler version search?
Checking sampler is near where you saved the diagnostic files
Thank you !! Here it is...
Since your advice solved my problem, I've upgraded MuseScore to version 4.6.4. Could this be affecting the MuseSampler version search?
Can you clarify what you mean by your problem is solved?
Does the crash still happen? Are you able to use MuseSounds?
Since the settings were adjusted as you indicated (changing the sounds to MS Basic), the problem has disappeared and hasn't reappeared! I can complete my score without the program crashing. In the future, if the problem arises, I know what to do: change the sounds to MS Basic (dropdown menu > Soundfont > MS Basic > Select automatically). I also learned something new: how to ask for help from the community! Thanks again for this invaluable assistance!
