[MU4 - MuseSounds] Some notes on woodwinds sound with a phase shift

Open sberla365 opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Some notes in the saxophones sound with some sort of phase shift, as if the note was triggered twice or played by two instruments. I had noticed this behaviour since the early days of Muse Sounds but never managed to pin it down. Still don't know how to trigger it but finally managed to reproduce it in the attached score. The last C in bar 1 is where this happens. The note appears clean two times before but the phasing happens only on the third appearance.

It also seems reproducible by placing subsequent quarter notes on the same pitch. In this example for alto sax, the first four sound good, and the ones after that sound bad: image

I tested Casper's line with various wind and brass instruments. All the winds are affected by the phasing on the last 4 notes. It also seems related to attacks. The first four notes are performed with a "correct" attack. Subsequent notes are instead somewhat slurred, when there should be no need for a different type of attack. With brasses the issue changes slightly. With trumpet and trombone, the phasing does not seem to happen but the attack changes dramatically. The trombone sounds almost slurred, the end of the preceding note and the attack of the following sound almost overlapping. The trumpet is slightly better. Tuba seems cleaner although not perfect. Could the issue with winds and brasses be the same or somewhat related? I have a feeling this might also depend from the fact that notes separated by rest get attack and subsequent notes sound more slurred? In theory there should be no need for a different type of attack.
