[MU4 Issue] Unable to re-open saved score if more than two staffs are assigned to VST instruments EastWest OPUS

Open ShawTakeuchi opened this issue 2 years ago • 1 comments

Describe the bug

Unable to re-open saved .mscz MS4 score if more than two staffs (tracks) are assigned to VST instruments EastWest OPUS. MS4 4.0.0 will crash (crash-to-desktop, no error messages) when attempting to open the score.

To Reproduce

  1. Create new score Piano

  2. Mixer: assign Piano to EastWest VST OPUS:Pianos:Steinway

  3. Save and Close Musescore4

  4. Restart Musescore4 and Open - verify it works.

  5. Add 2-3 additional staffs / instruments

  6. Mixer: assign to EastWest VST OPUS Flute, Violins, Violas, Cellos, CBS

  7. Save and Close Musescore4

  8. Restart Musescore4 - this will crash Musescore

Expected behavior

Saved file should open without crashing.

Platform information

Windows 10/64-bit 16GB RAM, all program & data stored in internal SSD for speed Using EastWest Steinway 24-bit samples, EastWest EWQLSO 16-bit samples

Additional context

Verified latest version of EastWest Opus (1.2.5) & libraries No issues running these VSTs from my DAW (Presonus Studio One 5) -- License manager is happy Repeated the above procedure 3 times -- this is a reliably repeatable crash

These EastWest libraries typically takes a while to load -- perhaps a timeout/timing issue in MS4? Let me know if I can collect any additional data!

See attached for .mscz files, 3 cases

  • 1 instrument - always works
  • 2 instruments - sometimes works
  • 6 instruments - always crash

Follow-up:

EastWest just updated Opus from 1.2.5 to 1.3.0, 2 days ago (dated 2022/12/22). After this update I am able to re-open my MS4 score files (attached .zip in the original issues post) without crash.

I re-tested opening these files immediately after the computer reboot for worse case VST load timing (not cached in RAM). No crash was observed.

I will run more stressful cases (12+ VST instruments?) time permitting -- if the file-open crash is not observed, I will close the issue in a few weeks.

Re-tested with MS4.0.0 and EastWest OPUS version 1.3.1 (latest at the time of this posting) -- no crashes on score open!!

5 OPUS orchestral instruments including full 24-bit Steinway.
Tested w/ PC cold boot to flush out the cache (worst case load timing).

Closing this issue as Resolved.
