+1 I also need a newer build.

Debian has a page showing their releases:

  • Debian 11 (bullseye) — current stable release
  • Debian 10 (buster) — current oldstable release
  • Debian 9 (stretch) — oldoldstable release, under LTS support
  • Debian 8 (jessie) — archived release, under extended LTS support https://www.debian.org/releases/

As Debian versions become obsolete the packages also go stale. For example:

  • Debian 11 (bullseye) — cmake (3.18.4)
  • Debian 10 (buster) — cmake (3.13.4)
  • Debian 9 (stretch) — cmake (3.7.2)
  • Debian 8 (jessie) — cmake (3.0.2)

This presents problems when trying to crossbuild projects created for cmake newer than v3.7.2. There is no crossbuild image which supports it, and I cannot upgrade cmake via apt-get install cmake as the latest version is restricted by the Debian versioon.
