Mullvad prevents Windows network connectivity for several minutes out of hibernation
Is it a bug?
- [X] I know this is an issue with the app, and contacting Mullvad support is not relevant.
I have checked if others have reported this already
- [X] I have checked the issue tracker to see if others have reported similar issues.
Current Behavior
I am on Windows 11 and have set my laptop to hibernate instead of sleep. Effectively every time the laptop resumes from hibernation, I have no network connectivity for several minutes if Mullvad was connected when the laptop hibernated.
I am not exaggerating about minutes. It can take almost 5 minutes.
The usual WiFi network icon is unavailabe in the pop-up when I click on the offline icon (globe) on the taskbar. I usually then enable airplane mode, but that does nothing for several minutes until it finally takes effect. At that point I can now disable airplane mode and everything is back to normal.
I can 100% avoid this problem if I disconnect Mullvad before my laptop hibernates.
I reported this to support and was told the next beta version of the client should have the fix. I see nothing in the Changelog that indicates such a fix for the 4/15 drop, so I decided to file an issue here.
Expected Behavior
Windows should resume from hibernation correctly
Steps to Reproduce
- Connect Mullvad VPN
- Hibernate the computer and leave it alone for several minutes (just to be sure)
- Turn the computer on again and observe the tomfoolery.

I have the same issue, but sleep is enough. So windows 11 and couple of minutes of sleep - when you wake laptop it strangley does not allow wifi to connect (because of this I lost a day troublesooting wifi adapter (mediatek) instead). If I uninstall mullvad, everything works fine. I use mullvad daily on other devices with windows 10 (intel adapter) and android without any issue.
