Feature Request: Implement a persistent dark mode option for web content.
Does this feature already exist in Firefox Stable?
Yes
Does this feature already exist in Firefox ESR?
I don't know
Feature description
The Mullvad Browser currently includes a dark mode for the user interface, which is a welcome feature. However, this setting does not extend to web content. While it's possible to manually enable dark mode on websites that support it, this preference is reset every time the browser is closed.
This request is to add an option for an automatic and persistent dark mode for websites. I understand that a primary focus of the Mullvad Browser is to prevent browser fingerprinting, and that exposing a dark mode preference can contribute to a unique fingerprint. This is a known trade-off between privacy and user experience.
The current implementation requires manually switching to dark mode on every site, which can be inconvenient and detrimental to the user experience, especially for users who prefer browsing in darker environments to reduce eye strain.
It would be beneficial to have a user-configurable option to enable a persistent dark mode for web content, even if it comes with a disclaimer about the potential impact on fingerprinting. This would allow users to make an informed decision based on their individual priorities.
