Enable Local translations
Expected behavior
I expected to see the ability to download the translations (at least for specific languages) and then being able to locally translate the pages online
Actual behavior
I actually see this in the settings when trying to download any language pack:
And then I see this if I try to translate a page while being on that page (not that there are any other possibilities afaik):
Steps to reproduce
- Open browser
- Go to about:config
- Set this : browser.translations.automaticallyPopup true browser.translations.enable true browser.translations.newSettingsUI.enable true browser.translations.panelShown true
Then try to go to mullvad browser settings and download a language pack, or try to go to a page that is in written in a different language than what your browser is using, and try to translate the page using the popup in the right part of the url bar
Issue reproducibility
Always reproducible

yes, translations are available in FF128 and higher - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/website-translation
no, they are not available in MB or Tor Browser - can't find the tor project issues in a hurry, but we hid the UI parts/prompts and blocked the remote resources... cc @PieroV
This will land in Mullvad Browser when/if the audit is completed and successful.
You can follow progress here: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/tor-browser/-/issues/41837
I'll be following this issue with great interest. I agree that this is an important addition.
We might be a few years away from seeing this in Tor/Mullvad, but at least I'm glad that it's on the team's radar, even if there isn't anyone assigned to the task.
