Focus gets lost on mini-frame

Hello, I'd like to break out a new issue similar to #37 and representing one half of #67 . It's listed there as a potential non-issue, but this is a definite issue here.

Problem Summary

Mini-frame often loses focus (especially when changing workspaces on Gnome) and then I'm typing in a buffer behind mini-frame. It happens nigh constantly and despite my hypervigilance to it and a keybind to try and help me get back in, I can't keep a steady focus on Mini-frame. The mini-buffer always felt a bit inescapable, but mini-frame too slippery. I'd rather it were really pesky about gaining focus; deliberate escape keybinds can then be added.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open mini-frame
2. Change workspaces on gnome Focus is lost.

Side-note

This is definitely not the only use-case that needs to be patched. It's just one immediate way of seeing what the problem is.
