same problem here : I tried default install (no root) and there was problems to access /usr/share/local-ai/

then I reinstalled as root, but other problems pop up. (can't remember).

Then I deleted all, and reinstalled in user mode, specifying a custom model path.

Now the error when starting local-ai run is: FTL Error running the application error="failed basic startup tasks with error unable to create ImageDir: \"mkdir /tmp/generated/images: permission denied\""

I'm on linux Mint 22, Linux MyComputer 6.8.0-57-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Mar 15 17:40:59 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm not sure if this could be the fix, but try to edit the MODELS_PATH variable from the /etc/localai.env file to a directory with write access.

I can't change the directory with models. I changed groups and permissions, but it won't work.
