Combine "timeline" and "reports"

Can the timeline and reports view just consolidated into a single "report" view?

To be honest I can't really work out what the differences between "report" and the "timeline" view, they seem to do pretty much the same thing with very small differences (e.g. no grouping by "none" in the timeline).

What was the original thinking behind having two different views? What are they meant to do? Would it not be easier to combine them into one and just add the functionality from the timeline to the reports screen and call everything "reports"?
