Packages updates for newer version of Ubuntu

Just an FYI - running on 17.10, a few of the packages have no installation candidates. You package list likely needs to be updated. I just started testing.

I endorse the need of an update, the script is kind of old and I would love to have an practical way to batch install "i3buntu".

Yeah, I was surprised that there really is no Ubuntu based i3 setup available. Meaning something comprehensively tweaked to work out of the box. I currently install over top of a flavour, but would be nice to have an experience targeted at I3 (something like archmerge)

Been looking for ages.

I've been considering putting together an ISO in my side time. But that's a while out.😁

@bashfulrobot, I believe that a ISO would be unecessary and harder to maintain. I believe the best option would be to have a complete script for installation to be ran on top of ubuntu minimal ISO. One that get rid of ubuntu's obsolete i3 channel and replace it for the i3 website's one, then install a simple basic rig (maybe with Albert as a launcher) and a basic disable'able dock.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will be looking into it as soon as possible. I think my original attempt was to make sure that the script worked with the LTS releases, so that I would now have to modify so often. But I am all up for all sorts of suggestions, and it makes me glad to see the interest. I will hand in my master's thesis in a month, so I think my time will be reserved in that timeslot. :-)

Anything you wanna offload on us? I'm absolutely a beginner but I would be happy to try and learn and forward stuff to you to accept

I am to defend my thesis on March 22th, so I will hopefully soon have time to engage in this again. But I am honored that you want to help, so you are absolutely allowed to make contributions! Does it make sense to focus on LTS alone? At least it is easier to maintain.

I believe focusing on LTS makes total sense.

I will hopefully get the time to update this soon. @Lubriderm I may very well be interested in various kinds of support. :-)

@bashfulrobot @Lubriderm @Sikian: Does this continue to be an issue, and do you have suggestions regarding which packages to update? I have not spend much time, but I can see that the most recent LTS has this manifest: http://releases.ubuntu.com/bionic/ubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.manifest

I'm not sure. I have been using Regolith as of late.
