Panicking on long lines, multi-byte characters.

I found some panics in this while playing around with wapm, and made a PR showing and fixing some problematic inputs.

Later I noticed that the wapm package is a rather silent fork of this. I'd backport the PR to here, but I can't build this. I at least wanted to leave this note.
